♥ 8:17 pm

this post is to all my lovely juniors who are currently under immense stress and pressure un preparation for the big Os. well, this is what pulled me through, and hopefully some of these advice will help you along your journey towards academic excellence.

1. DON'T FREAK OUT. yes, i know it's hard, but staying calm allows you to perform better.

2. START PREPARATION NOW. KEEP GOING THROUGH YOUR WORK. don't wait till the last minute. cos you won't have time to finish, and it'll be harder for all your content to sink into your head.

3. SPREAD OUT ALL SUBJECTS EQUALLY. don't plonk all your energy into 1 subject before proceeding to the next. to me, you'll tend to forget faster. so moderation (omg i sound like aslaksen from O level lit text) is the key.

4. MAKE GOOD NOTES. mind-maps, chain reactions, bullet form blah blah blah + legible handwriting. do what makes you learn most effectively and it'll be easier for revision. for example, for me, i use chain reactions. blah blah ---> blah blah ---> blah blah ---> blah blah. to each blah blah use key words or short sentences. this is particularly good for processes.

5. (for lit students) MEMORISE SOME GOOD QUOTES. quotes are VERY IMPORTANT to substaintiaing your point. but DON'T VOMIT AND FORCE YOURSELF TO USE EVERY QUOTE YOU'VE MEMORISED, cos you may go OUT-OF-POINT.

6. USE COLOURS. sometimes, colours make you more interested in referring to your notes. also, colours can help you visualise better? haha.

7. FOLD CORNERS OF PAGES / PAGES, USE FLAGS & POST-ITS. folding your pages helps to identify the important content.

8. GET ENOUGH SLEEP. the lack of sleep won't allow you to think clearly. you need a clear mind for everything, especially MATHS (or anything to do with calculations) if not your work will be FULL of errors and careless mistakes. CARELESS MISTAKES ARE THE LAST THING YOU WANNA COMMIT.

you'll be in my prayers. God bless. and take care. :)

update!

♥ 2:50 pm

heh, this blog has been stagnant for 1 week. haha. to those who were frekishly worried for marie, she's TOTALLY back to normal. well, there hasn't been much to update about, i think it was wise to wait till when more has taken place before actually updating...

mon: dragon boating at kallang. what can i say? FUN FUN FUN.
tues: welcoming ceremony + lessons. welcoming ceremony was good. played the song 'celebrate youth', luckily i didn't screw it up. wore the CJ uniform for the first time. it was HUGE. but now i'm used to it. haha.
wed: lessons. haha. nothing much. same same.
thurs: lessons again. same same. had PE and mr new is not our teacher! *cries!* ran 8 rounds WITHOUT STOPPING. finished it in about 18 mins. which is a GREAT achievement for me. so now my legs are aching.
fri: lessons again. had spot check in school. i'm clear! skirt is ok.*phew!* had my first non-contact period aka free period due to mother tongue! *yay* went to novena to shop for my new hp in the evening with mum and sis cos my contract was ending. but didn't get it immediately; needed time to consider. got a new pair of bronze ballet pumps *THANKS MUM!*
sat: homework. 'the hoilday'. new phone. (:

thinking about everything, i miss 4/1. LOADS.

last day of orientation - DRAGON BOATING!
Monday, March 19, 2007
♥ 9:01 pm

yay! last day of orientation = DRAGON BOATING! haha. *anyone out there jealous?*

i'm joking!

morning assembly in the audi; session with home tutor (who's still mrs la'brooy! YAY!); got our school ties; chiong-ed for our desired seats etc...haha. i'm now sitting in between mandy and clarisse. haha. quite far away from the guys, so it looks like the girls are isolating themselves from the guys...oh well, put together, we're still a crazy bunch. haha. mandy also sabo-ed clarisse with *ahem*...clarisse's expression was to die for! haha.

despite the super heavy rain in the morning (like 6.30-7.30) the skies cleared up in time for us to go paddle the boats. haha. when we reached kallang it was really sunny.

really sunny = super hot.

so we got on to dragon boating after the briefing. got cloudy so it wasn't so hot. nice for dragon boating. had a little drizzle in fact. 1T14 showed GREAT TEAMWORK! with cheers and paddling. switched places with martin (who wasn't paddling and was in front of the boat) around the half-way mark. haha. meant that i could slack. *chuckles* but it's a seat that may not always be offered so i grabbed at the chance.

now i know,
splashing other classes in other boats = soaking wet.
soaking wet= sea water in your eyes
sea water in your eyes = pain.

haha. 1T16's boat capsized. heard that it's not the first time for that class. O_O raced back just when we were done. didn't come in first but it was a job well done! what matters most is that we had fun!

games in school in the afternoon. it was very much like PE, except there were many more games to be played. then went for welcoming ceremony rehearsal, and reached home just in time for dinner.

more slacking for the night. but from tomorrow, it's chiong time. for the A levels.

wow.

pissed / ice skating!!
Sunday, March 18, 2007
♥ 2:58 pm

just when i felt like i've returned a happier marie, i'm let down yet again. with disappointment and some extent of anger. but i'm fine. not troubled. just pissed.

don't promise anything unless you're dead sure about it.

ok, so that was the devilsh marie speaking.

i'm not so pissed anymore. well, at least the word to describe myself on fri morn was 'pissed'. but thanks to those *you-know-who-you-are* who made me feel so much better. haha. now it's a hint of reluctance, maybe with a little joy injected into it. why, you may ask? maybe this may answer any questions lingering out there.

so yesterday i went ice skating with my class. had quite a lot of fun i must say, for someone who has confirmation that she has the basics in both roller blading and ice skating. haha. *yay* and it was great to see everyone again after missing the 3rd day of O2 and almost the whole march hols.

i was first to arrive at jurong east mrt station. and the 2nd person that arrived, reached 20 minutes later. waited for more people to arrive and so we ended up starting to skate something like almost 2 hours later! wow. so while waiting for MANDY who OVERSLEPT it was DDR and daytona...and it was funny that the guys took 1 arrow each...and still not being able to beat my score. haha.

ice skating was FUN FUN FUN!!! :) fell thrice *i think* first was when james grabbed onto my jacket and made me fall (he DIDN'T fall btw) 2nd was when i went too fast and lost balance. third was during what martin calls the choo-choo-train. mandy, jia yi, james and i were holding on to martin and somehow we lost balance and ended up falling. haha. everyone had their fair share of falls, but isn't that what makes it even more enjoyable?

skated for almost 3 hours, with james stopping at the 2 hour mark. *he perspired within 30 minutes into skating. HAHA.* generally, it was loads of fun, so everyone should go try it some day! :)

went for lunch. did it MARTIN ANG'S WAY. spilt up, buy food, meet up then sit and eat. but the security guard chased us away. *OOPS!* then clarisse joined us. clarisse said she spent over 200 bucks during this whole hol. WOW! then watched martin, jia yi and jethro finish their food and drink chocolate milk out of a carton *unglam if girls did it* proceeded to play at the arcade. haha. had fun as usual, then mandy, james and i left.

blue blacks on my knees now. wow. and tmr's gonna be last day of O2 *PHEW!* DRAGON BOATING and I CAN GO! YAY! :)

hopefully everything will be much better with the turning of the new term. yieks.

ok i shouldn't sound so pessismistic.

yay for marie.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOYCE!

♥ 5:17 pm

This post is dedicated to JOYCE TAN YI SIANG cos it's her BIRTHDAY TODAY! haha. so

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOYCE!

may the Lord continue to guide you in everything that you do!!

The Birthday Song~ Corrinne May
Don't worry about that extra line
That's creeping up upon your face
It's just a part of nature's way to say you've grown a little more
Trees have rings and thicker branches
Kids shoes get a little tighter
Every year we're getting closer to who we're gonna be
It's time to celebrate the story of how you've come to be
Happy Birthday, my friend
Here's to all the years we've shared together
All the fun we've had
You're such a blessing
Such a joy in my life
May the good Lord bless you
And may all your dreams come true
So light a candle on your cake
For every smile you've helped create
For every heart and every soul you've helped to grow
A little more
A few more pounds, a little more grey
Don't count the years, just count the way
It takes a little time to go from water into wine
Don't ever lose the wonder of that child within your eyes
Happy Birthday, my friend
Here's to all the years we've shared together
All the fun we've had
You're such a blessing
Such a joy in my life
May the good Lord bless you
And may all your dreams come true

Marie's BACK!
Thursday, March 15, 2007
♥ 8:32 pm

yay marie's back from beijing!! and she's happier!! to all who were crazily worried for her, your troubles are over, cos she's MUCH BETTER NOW!!

reached home at almost 11pm last night. after unpacking and such, slept at almost 1am and woke up at around 8. met up with some 4/1 people (ie soon-li, germaine, mai, szeching isabelle & pat) for lunch at the vil'age. it was fun doing loads of catching up after what seemed like eons...but first let's go back to my trip in beijing...

~*BEIJING 2007*~
general stuff to note: *no offence to any of my friends from china*
>it is winter, going on to spring in beijing. so it was about single digit temperature.
>every meal was VERY filling and VERY NICE! and i mean both lunch and dinner.
>chinese in china like to smoke.
>chinese in china have the habit of spitting. omg.

day1: arrived early the morning in beijing. met our tour guide (she's a very nice person!) and went to the temple of heaven. we found out that the chinese in china retire when they reach 50...like SO YOUNG! and the retirees LOVE playing cards...and i thought that my class was a mini gambling den. turns out the whole row of retirees at the temple of heaven (like a place where they kill time) PLAY CARDS! omg. and also the temple of heaven is where the emperor used to pray to the heavens for good harvests etc...haha. then went to the beijing underground city. a last minute decision since the tiananmen square was not open to the public. really cool that the beijing underground city linked the people to the whole of beijing...even to the great wall (which is 50km away. =.=) patronised a silk factory which was also underground and mum bought a silk quilt, which costs something like S$200? i'm not sure. had peking duck for dinner that day...like YUM!

day2: colder weather. lots of wind. climbed the great wall that morning. quite steep but it's peseverance that does the trick! and my family reached the highest point of the particular stretch we climbed. :) lunched at a great restaurant. was served a small bottle of wine (those that the ancient emperors used to drink) that had an alcohol content of 56%! the highest in china! then went to see the emperor's tomb. went to a tea house too. drank LOADS of chinese tea...from pu'er to jasmine, to oolong and tianqi...and mum spent like about S$300 on tea!!! *faints* got a beautiful tea set made of clay too. haha. went to a huge shop selling jade. and mum spent lots on jade too. *faints* but bought some lovely jade accessories. haha.

day3: went to the forbidden city- the one on land. haha. HUGE palace i must say. haha. loads of beautiful and intricate paintings and architecture. loads of renovations in time for beijing 2008. went to the summer palace too. the place where empress cixi used to go to every so often. lovely scenery. refreshing air if not for the disgusting smokers that just irked me. also went to the orchard road of beijing. didnt buy anything though. went to to a pearl shop. btw pearls are empress cixi's fav!! wow. mum spent more money there again. *faints*

JESSICA TEO: THIS PICTURE IS JUST FOR YOU. HIGH END BOUTIQUE!! haha.

day4: went for a trishaw ride through the back alleys of beijing- the alleys of the old china houses. it was an interesting experience to be brought around there. at least we got to see the remaining of these houses. went to tiananmen and learnt lots about fengshui. haha. and that the twin towers in KL, suntec and sentosa in s'pore all had fengshui influences. haha. went to the silk mall to do shopping. did LOADS of bargaining. MOST of our time was actually spent on haggling over the exobritant prices of what seemed or was perceived to be imitation goods. mum, dad and sis each got a pair of shoes, but very unfortunately, the stinking salesgirl got sis a pair of shoes that was TOO BIG. and sis was very disappointed. mum, sis and i got each a shirt. and i absolutely love the print of my shirt! haha.
day5: the family was on our own that day. so we decided to do shopping around the area that we stayed. SHOPPING = FUN FUN FUN!!! typical hobby for a girl. haha. bought loads of stuff. CDs and DVDs to be exact. no surprise wince we spent a WHOLE morning in this HUGE book store in beijing. instead of the fancy and HUGE portions of lunch, we ate at a food court. RMB20 for the WHOLE FAMILY! haha. did even MORE shopping in the afternoon. got some cute jeans with great designs. mum got winterwear that suited her SO perfectly. dad, a few pairs of pants. sis, nothing since she was very disappointed with what happened the previous day. uncle vincent arrived in beijing that afternoon too, since he SO COINCIDENTALLY happened to be on flight to beijing. went over to his hotel (WHICH IS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF BEIJING CITY!) and the ride there by cab took us 1 whole hour. *faints* the hotel he stayed at was SO AWESOME! JUNIOR SUITE! like WOW WOW WOW!!! COFFEE MAKER, FAX MACHINE, HUGE FLAT SCREEN TV, BALCONY, GREAT BATHROOM WITH A TV AT THE BATHTUB AREA etc...DAMN COOL! went to one of the top peking duck restaurants near uncle vincent's hotel. the only down side is that the place was SUPER SMOKY! cos so many people in china smoke like mad. *no offence to my china friends* and apparently rice in that kind of restaurant is considered poor man's food. but we didn't care. all in all, we had a good meal. :)
day 6: went to do a little shopping in the same area as the previous day. went to exchange my pair of jeans for another but ended up buying another pair of jeans and not doing any exchanges. chinese in china are very superstitious. apparently they believe in making a sales before they do any exchanges whatsoever. haha. i got a pair of studs, dad got another 2 pairs of pants, and sis, a cap. then went back to the hotel and left for the airport. met uncle vincent at the airport cos he COINCIDENTALLY again was on the same flight home (as in he's working- in flight supervisor) the flight was delayed a little cos the plane arrived late. watch 'night at the museum', 'charlotte's web' and almost the whole of 'casino royale'. LOVED 'night at the museum' as usual, cried while watching 'charlotte's web' cos charlotte (which is the SPIDER and NOT THE PIG NOR THE GIRL aka dakota fanning) died. 'casino royale' was ok, just no fun watching the the second time. haha.
as for today...
went out early to meet soon-li cos it was DAMN noisy cos there was LOADS of drilling cos neighbours are pulling down their house. escaped the noise (THANKFULLY!) but poor sis had to bear with the noise the whole day through. didn't crash IJ-SJI combined prefect's camp, no mood lah. met audrey teng at novena. then reached tp mrt station early. went down to somerset with soon-li and met up with the rest. met hui geok (my junior) at somerset and talked to her quite a bit. then left for the vil'age for lunch once everyone arrived.
lunch was basically just some random chit-chat and updating on our oh-so-exciting JC lives. our dear pat arrived later cos SHE SLEPT IN! wow. what a sleepyhead for someone who's doing practically nothing for the whole march hol. listened to isabelle's fascinating stories about her korean students whom she's giving tuition to. and her expressions were SO cute, all of us couldn't help but laugh. haha. it was during lunch that germaine told me that she's back to blogging! like after a 2 year break? FINALLY. haha. cam-whored... =.= isabelle left early to give tuition. went down to far east to eat fried mars bars (for me) and pat, her homemade oyster mee sua which didn't have oysters...weird not to have oysters in what is known as oyster mee sua. =.= HAHA. then we parted and went after a whole afternoon out. *cries*
I LOVE 4/1!

orientation 2 / marie feels like giving up
Wednesday, March 07, 2007
♥ 7:05 pm

orientation 2 (02) is not all that good. not yet at least. and i'm not at all excited with O2. the petition is also worrying me. i'm worried that we may not get our class back. and i'll have to start all over again, which sucks.

yesterday, i felt like giving up. just letting go. but after talking to mum, i've decided to hold on. but i hope all uncertainties will end soon. i hate the way i've been feeling. disappointed, upset, troubled and confused. i hate it that i don't know when it'll end, how long more till i'll be the normal marie- the marie that laughs like crazy almost everyday, the marie that looks forward to the next day, the marie that does not regret her decisions, the marie that feels loved, the marie that feels special, the marie that feels she can make a difference, the marie that smiles ever so often, the marie that is on cloud nine.

this will be my last post before i go to china for my hol.

i'm gonna be reflecting a whole lot. hopefully my week away will trigger some minds out there.

SSMO knows what i mean.

thank you to those who have made me feel special when i needed it the most.

bored marie / JAE postings
Tuesday, March 06, 2007
♥ 3:25 pm

i woke up a happier marie today. but will i end the day a sadder marie? i hope not. *be optimistic marie!!*

JAE postings were out this morn. first thing i did when i woke up was to check the postings. no prizes for guessing where i landed in. CJC.

talked to my 'da ge' (big brother) aka aaron online last evening and this morn. haha. felt much better after that. THANKS DA GE!!

then it was piano, tv, piano, computer.

yes, that's how bored i am. super bored. super sian.

wanted to go out with my friend, but i'm (currently) waiting for a reply...from the looks of it, i'm gonna stuck at home for the rest of the afternoon...

my neighbour's house is in the midst of being torn down. not only is it really noisy, but i'm getting sad cos the place where we hold fond memories is gonna be brought down to rubble. *watches the house get torn down helplessly*

played msn games with james online just now. haha. we got owned at uno, and i gave up on checkers knowing that i'll lose sooner or later.

marie's still waiting to get out of the house...and still feeling bored...

THANKSGIVING MASS #2
IJ TP CHAPEL, THURS 8 MARCH, 6.30PM
for all IJTP girls who weren't able to make it for thanksgiving mass #1

bro paul gave us half day cos of good A level results. add that to JAE postings (which constitutes to another FULL DAY OFF *yay* ) and what do you get? MAJOR SLACKING.

played captain's ball with my class. inter-class and intra-class. only played one game for my class for the inter-class game. but i scored a goal! like YAYNESS *victory dance* and we won that match! we tied 2 others and lost 1, so we didnt make it to the next round. we played the last game with dignity, and win or lose, it was simply class-bonding for us.

orientation 2 is up in 2 days; i'm not at all excited at it. it's gonna be orientation group for the first 2 days, followed by the class. i absolutely hate it being in an IG. there's just no time for bonding. furthermore i love my current class. it's hard to start all over again. yet i'm going to china on fri morn. i'm gonna miss the only day of orientation with my class. and that sucks like hell. that's why i dont have this attachment to my first IG. that's why i'm one of those who appealed to stay as a class after first intake. that's why i hate being a member of orientation. i'd rather be a facil... *sulks like a spoilt brat*

so the group of us played truth or dare after captain's ball. without a doubt everyone had a turn. being the victim is never a good feeling. everyone was particularly worried for me. haha. *thanks guys* and that's all i'll reveal here. rmb, it's between the group of us. so don't let the cat out of the bag.

it's been a long day.

I MISS IJ!!!! and 1T27 ALL THE WAY!!!!

If We Were A Movie - Hannah Montana
Uh oh
There you go again talking cinematic
Yeah you!
You're charming, got everybody star struck.
I know
How you always seem to go
For the obvious instead of me
But get a ticket and you'll see
If we were a movie
You'd be the right guy
And I'd be the best friend that you fall in love with
In the end we'd be laughing
Watching the sunset
Fade to black
Show the names
Play that happy song
(Yeah)
Yeah, yeah
When you call me
I can hear it in your voice
Oh sure!
Wanna see me
And tell me all about her
La la
I'll be acting through my tears
Guess you'll never know
That I should win
An Oscar for this scene I'm in
If we were a movie
You'd be the right guy
And I'd be the best friend that you fall in love with
In the end we'd be laughing
Watching the sunset
Fade to black
Show the names
Play that happy song
Wish I could tell you there's a twist
Some kind of hero in disguise
And we're together
It's for real
Now playing
Wish I could tell you there's a kiss
Like something more than in my mind
I see it
Could be amazing
If we were a movie
You'd be the right guy
And I'd be the best friend that you fall in love with
In the end we'd be laughing
Watching the sunset
Fade to black
Show the names
Play that happy song

if you saw me yesterday, or talked to me, or had any encounter with me yesterday, you'd met a depressed marie. a different marie. and marie doesn't usually get depressed. because she hates it.

i cried a lot yesterday. and i hate it when i cry. cos it's hard to stop, and my eyes would hurt. and the emotion is too overwhelming.

and when i needed you, you were only there hours later. despite your attempts to cheer me up, the sadness still plauged me. i didn't feel special. everything seemed so much different. yet i thank you for being there. because at least you made me smile for once that day.

yes, that was how pathetic i was. that was how helpless i was.

but in the end, i managed to gather myself together. despite all the injustice around. by hiding, by only managing to speak out like a mice. a voice so soft, an opinion that insignificant.

why should there be conflict in the world? it's just makes a community break down. why can't just everyone give and take, even if it means being a little insecure? isn't there something called trust? a little sacrifice never hurts. look at how our Lord died on the cross just to save our sins. that's true sacrifice. why can't people just learn? why are people just so self-centered?

why should people be so picky, so fussy? no one is perfect. everyone makes mistakes. shouldn't each individual be a bit more magnanimous? isn't it known that as kiths and kins you should accept each other's short-comings?

why should there be people who speak without thinking? without a single consideration that you'd hurt another person's feelings? without a single consideration that the person you're condemning is someone you've accepted into your life?

why is the world unfair?

why can't the world be perfect? a place where wars never existed? a place devoid of conflict? a place where people were so giving? a place where everyone'd be smiling? a place where happiness and not sorrow existed?

why am i talking like that?

'snap out it it, marie!'

on hindsight, i'm feeling much better now. not so depressed, but still disappointed at so much that's going around me. i want things to change. i like things the way they were before. the time when i was happier, laughing till my belly hurt, looking forward to the next day, not regretting whatever happened to me. but now, that's all gone. i almost dread the next day. i'm hoping, as if in vain, for a miracle to happen. a miracle that would make everyone happier. a miracle that would make me happier.

i feel like my life is some drama serial. the type with this cliche storyline. my life feels like a movie. a sad movie. the type with no ending to the sad story.

i hope my life turns out to be a movie. the type of movie where there is a climax, one which ends off in a happy ending.

far east / SOON-LI'S CRASHING!!!! / sarah's adventure camp
Friday, March 02, 2007
♥ 8:21 pm

CJ dismissed us at 12 today, albeit lessons for my class ended at 11. so it was slacking till 12, when we left for far east plaza to have lunch. clarisse bought a belt (with a crown as the buckle) and i bought neon green shoe laces for my nike!! lunched at KFC, but had the fish ole meal, cos it's friday and it's no meat day. same went for 4 others, cos we're all catholic.

came back to CJ with the rest of them cos SOON-LI CRASHED CJ TODAY! talk so much with her today...cos after all, we're such good friends! mich law was in CJ too, cos her sis was collecting her A level results.

so what did we talk about? hmmm...from school, to girl-talk, to gossip (a girl's 2nd best friend..haha.), about going out during the march hols, and her sis (who happens to teach in CJ) then walked around the school, talking at the grand stand and other places...and covering our ears whenever we saw a streak of lightning...

i'm gonna do her sis this favour...haha.

SOON-LI:
you shall...
1. stop slacking. do your math tutorial. get partial fractions right! haha.
2. alter your skirt. it's a bit short though it looks ok. but a bit longer is better. haha.
3. do what you feel you like. as in...arts or science, it's really up to you. wish you all the best! :)

see? i'm so nice. show so much concern for you... *soon-li: you'd better be reading this now and sobbing with loads of tissues...* haha.

can't wait for our outing during the march hols!!!

sis is at adventure camp, will be back tmr. highly think she's not chao-ta. haha.

tnxgiving mass / captain's ball
Thursday, March 01, 2007
♥ 5:16 pm

let's start with tuesday...

went back to IJ for tnxgiving mass. it was great as usual being able to step back into the gates of IJ, when this mass meant that i was gonna officially step out of the gates, thus leaving IJ to be my alma mater. how ironic.

but all that begins eventually has to come to an end. same goes with my 10 year journey with IJTP. Father Simon celebrated mass (like YAY! I LOVE FATHER SIMON!!) and as usual...hymns that i loved...and an interesting homily. as with the previous year, girls were invited to give thanks to anyone and everyone in everybody's presence.

best part was when Father Simon referred IJTP girls to be eagles...soaring over RI, ACS...and finally.............landing in SJI. like omg. haha. it was usually flying over RI, ACS, SJI etc etc...and how on earth did it become landing in SJI?? i have NOT THE SLIGHTEST CLUE. haha. but that was funny. *laughs in shock*

as for today...

played captain's ball in the rain during PE. had quite a good time despite getting wet (not that wet but still wet...you get what i mean) hubert was good, but HE SCORED AN OWN GOAL! andrew owned! xiangfei was like grabbing the ball cos he's SUPER TALL!! and finally, the most valuable player (for girls and guys) were 'given out'. andrew took the guy's award and i had the honour of taking the girl's!! yayness. xiangfei got the best effort award for attempting to shoot into the net (but with multiple failed attempts.)

so that's it. gtg meet mum for dinner. later.
